Please consider directly admitting your patients to North Kansas City Hospital or Liberty Hospital, rather than sending them to the Emergency Department*. Directly admitting your patients may help them to avoid possible delays and costs associated with a visit to the Emergency Department.

HOW TO DIRECTLY ADMIT PATIENTS FROM YOUR OFFICE:

* Direct admissions are not for all of your patient admissions. Please send your patients to the Emergency Department if they require rapid imaging, or are experiencing chest pain, acute stroke, active gastrointestinal hemorrhage, unstable vital signs, hypoxia, syncope, diabetic ketoacidosis, sepsis, trauma, or are in decline

North Kansas City Hospital

To directly admit your patient to NKCH, either

  • Call the NKCH transfer center at 816-691-1584, and notify them that you would like to directly admit your patient to the services of Gates Hospitalists
  • The NKCH Transfer center will connect you to our Hospitalist on call to discuss the case. Together you will determine the admission status and floor status best suited for your patient. Please send your patient’s pertinent problem list, medication list, recent office notes, and recent diagnostic tests to the transfer center fax at 816-346-7196. Please encourage your patient to go directly from your office to the hospital.
  • Your patients can utilize the NKCH valet service to park their car, and quickly enter the admissions process at the ground floor of the Pavilion. They will then be taken to the Admitting and Assessment Unit (AAU).  The AAU is the designated direct admission unit for your patients between 9am and 9pm Monday through Friday. Once in the AAU they will be welcomed and on-boarded by a registered nurse. Their home medications will be verified and entered by the clinical pharmacist. The Hospitalist that discussed the case with you will evaluate and initiate diagnostic testing and treatment in the AAU.
